Module
4: Compliance Data Theme: "Enhancing Reactive and Proactive Compliance in Shipping
& Trade" Subscription: $250
Instructor: Sal Yazbeck, Ph.D. This
module rounds out the course with a discussion on compliance
in two key areas: cargo data, and trade data. On
the first, we focus on the food safety aspect
from the importer country perspective (a US
example is provided), as well as on the
Enterprise level, from a governance and business
process viewpoint.
On the second area, trade data, the focus is on
the export country side from a business
transactions perspective.
A sea vessel operations viewpoint is further
presented.
In terms of data flow, a distinction is made
between when compliance data is presented on
request (reactive), or when it is volunteered
(proactive) as a necessary measure for business
purposes.
On cargo data compliance, the focus is on food
safety (perishable foods),
and includes:
Reference to US Traceability
Final Rule (TFR) of the Food Safety and Modernization Act
(FSMA).
Example technology challenges
in the enterprise - potentially impeding timely compliance.
Examples of how the tech
industry and public/private partnerships (ie, Module 3) are
playing a role to help enterprises in this compliance process.
On trade data
(business
transactions)compliance,
the focus
includes:
Reference to US Department of
Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection
Service (APHIS), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
relative to inspection of agricultural imports.
Gov2Gov ephyto certificate
exchange.
Reference to Model Law on
Electronic Transferable Records (MLETR) relative to
integration of electronic bill of lading (eBoL) with customs.
Example tech innovations and
standards activities supporting compliance data process in
trade.
Highlights are also
noted on the International Maritime
Organization's (IMO) compliance requirement for
sea vessels towards reduction of greenhouse gas
in shipping.
