Module
3: Data Marketplaces Theme: "Transforming an Ecosystem: Data Services & Solutions
in Shipping and Trade" Subscription: $350 Prerequisites:
Module 1, Module 2 Instructor: Sal Yazbeck, Ph.D.
The
conversation in this module begins to bridge the
interplay between Modules 1, 2, and 3. Among the
connections highlighted are the root sources of
data (that come, in part, from Module 1), and
the delivery process of trigger data that drive
smart contracts in Module 2. It is an evolving
data marketplace and is the topic of
conversation in this module.
Here, we are at our next stop along the visual Module
Series - Data
Flow Roadmap,
and introduce
the concept of
Data
Marketplaces.
Using various
examples to
illustrate how
the industry
is potentially
evolving, the
conversation
is divided
into: 1)
Primary
Markets as the
source of root
data, and 2)
Secondary
Markets, where
root data is
potentially
accessed and
transformed to
create
value across
the greater
supply chain
ecosystem.
Based on a
market
awareness that
no single
entity holds
all the data,
a variety of
market
activity is
taking place
in the form of
market
entrants and
partnership
types.
Overall, two
sectors are
explored:
non-commercial,
and
commercial.
Within the
Primary
Marketplace,
the focus
covers:
Infrastructure sourced root
data (ie vessel and space).
Web sourced root data.
Evolving business models
collecting root data.
Hardware oracles.
Within
the Secondary
Marketplace,
the
conversation
includes:
Examples of industry
partnerships: public/private, and among B2B industry.
The session features a closer look at oracles
and the role they could potentially play in
trigerring smart contract functions in trade.
Both hardware and blockchain oracles are
explored in this regard.
