Module 1: Shipping Data
Theme: "Expanding Root Data Levels & Variety in Shipping"

Subscription: $250
Instructor: Sal Yazbeck, Ph.D.

The majority of international trade goods are known to ship via ocean carriers. And much is evolving in this industry by way of technology, business models, and related regulatory frameworks. This module kickstarts the four module series in this course by covering three market verticals within the shipping industry, with emphasis on root data collection in international shipping: cargo tracking, container tracking, and carrier tracking (ship data).

The topic is anchored in a regulatory compliance data approach in order to provide context to the conversation, in part, as to why the need for root data collection is relevant to industry beyond, for instance, innovation in products and services.

Following our visual
Module Series - Data Flow Roadmap, this module covers the tracking and monitoring of cargo, assets, and operations within the cross-border shipping ecosystem. It focuses on example root data types, collection, and their uses to provide insight on the following areas:

  • Data-type to be collected.
  • Data collection methods used (ie hardware, sensors).
  • Innovations in network technologies (cellular, satellite).
  • Cloud platforms.
  • Customers of collected data.

Insight is also broken down by business purpose, including:

  • Evolving business models.
  • Innovations in products and services.
  • Solutions application.
  • Market application.
  • Data for sea vessel safety and compliance (ie, AIS, CII).
